Puerto Princesa to host Ms. Earth swimsuit competition

October 23, 2008 8:47 pm by pna

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Oct. 23 — The city government will be hosting the swimsuit competition of the 2008 Ms. Earth Beauty Pageant on October 25 to be held at Daluyon Resort in Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan, some 80 kilometers north of this city.

City Information Officer Alroben Goh said that 30 Miss Earth candidates from around the world vying for the crown will be arriving in the city on October 24, Friday.

Goh said that Karla Paula Henry, the country’s candidate, is among the 30 Miss Earth beauties participating in the swimsuit competition.

On Oct. 24, candidates will hold a motorcade in the city’s streets, pay a courtesy call to Mayor Edward Hagedorn, hold a tree planting activity and a press conference and then at 3 p.m., travel to Sitio Sabang where the world’s longest navigable underground river, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP), is located.

At 6 a.m. on Oct. 25, the candidates will tour the park so that they can personally see its magnificent beauty and thus invite more votes to the PPSRNP, which is a nominee in the ongoing search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature of the World.

The swimsuit competition will be held at 10 a.m. on the same day.

Miss Earth beauties will also make a city tour in the baywalk and tourist destinations on Oct. 26.

Meanwhile, 16 Miss Earth aspirants are on a three-day “Goodwill Tour” in Coron in northern Palawan starting Oct. 22 to 24.

Board Member and Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL)-Palawan Chapter president Jim Gerald Pe said the candidates were treated to numerous tourism activities such as diving, island hopping, snorkeling, trekking, rock climbing, kayaking, horseback riding, motor and mountain biking, cave and lake exploration.

Pe, who also served as tour guide, said that Coron is the “Bahamas of the East” because it abounds in natural wonders that serve as year-round attractions for visitors.

Likewise, he said the Coron is the “Wreck Diving Capital of the Philippines” because of its 26 World War II vintage Japanese shipwrecks.

Miss Earth 2008, now on its 8th year, will culminate on November 9 at the Clark Expo Amphitheater in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Over 90 candidates are expected to participate in the event and all of them will tour different places in  the Philippines.

On the final night of the competition, outgoing Miss Earth 2007, Jessica Nicole Trisko of Canada, will crown her successor. (PNA)

in preperation for the upcoming miss earth

Miss Earth organization is very busy nowadays with their preparations and accreditations. They want to make sure that everything is in order for the pageant.

In this regard, the Miss Earth Guam organizers are invited to observe the pageant before “official talks” can begin with them to have a better grip of the pageant. Take into account that this is the first time that Guam joins Miss Earth. Accompanied by the Miss Earth Guam organizers are members of the Guam’s Tourism Authority to observe the pageant.

Rumor Control: According to our reliable source, the truth is Miss Earth Organization never made an official statement that the pageant will be held partly in Guam and Indonesia, other than the final night venue that it will be held in one of Asia’s largest Amphitheatre i.e., Clark Pampanga, Philippines. Wondered how the show is going to be in that exciting place!

Moreover, Bali may play as host this year, but most likely for a post pageant activity, as Bali is planning an environmental event soon. Let us keep our fingers crossed on this one. The organizers, we guess, really have to be certain about arrangements.

Regarding the airing of Miss Earth, opportunities has opened for a lot of TV Stations especially free terrestrial ones as many more networks and stations showed interest to acquire the broadcasting rights. This is from the time when Star World reformatted their programming recently. You see, they are not showing beauty pageants anymore including Miss Universe and Miss World. Watch for further announcement from Carousel Productions!

Guess, we have to reserve some of the intense heat this year for next year and we are already excited looking forward to next year’s activities.

Special Thanks to John Soul of the other Miss Earth Message Board. Mabuhay!

Jessica Silva appointed new Cuban delegate for Miss Earth 2008

Miss Cuba Organization regrets to announce the replacement of Geisy
Hernandez to the Miss Earth Pageant. Due to the government not
approving on time her travel documents to Manila. Geisy is very
saddened about this situation that we just have no control over. We
have decided to send Geisy to Miss Earth 2009 pageant instead.
So as an organization we had to act quickly and appointed Jessica Silva
to take her place. Jessica was in the process of preparing to compete
for at Miss Intercontinental 2009 for Cuba. We are confident that
Jessica will be a great Cuban representative at Miss Earth. We ask you
the fans to continue to show your support as you have with Geisy. There
is a Spanish proverb that says, “Dios sabe porque se hacen las cosas”
in translation “God only knows why he does what he does”. I strongly
believe this is only a stepping stone for Geisy, what does not kill us
makes us stronger.
